The Saami Climate Council is a globally unique scientific panel tasked with producing information about climate change from the perspective of Saami traditional knowledge and scientific research. This information is directed to both authorities and the Saami community for decision-making purposes and to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change on Saami culture.
The Saami Climate Council strengthens the voice of Saami traditional knowledge and scientific research in national and international climate policies. It aims to direct the focus on the specific challenges faced by Saami communities and promote solutions that support the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change, and the preservation of Saami culture.
